Onroots Yoga Retreat

About us

How OnRoots came alive

Our founders–Issy and Max met in Thailand while they were both traveling. Issy was finishing her Yoga Teacher Training, and Max had just quit his job in banking to figure out what he actually wanted to do with his life. At the time, Max was already deep into calisthenics and Issy had been practicing yoga for years.

They started training together and quickly realized that what they each had was exactly what the other was missing. Issy brought the yoga practice, the philosophy, and the biomechanics behind why we move. Max brought the strength and the specific structure of calisthenics.
They complement each other perfectly. It is the best combination, not just for the physical training, but for the way you live your life. We found that these two worlds together create a much more complete approach to movement.

Movement is a privilege. We both know what it is like when your body is unable to move the way you want it to. Because of that, we do not treat movement as a chore. For us, it means much more. It is about being physically capable and mentally present.

After years of hosting retreats all over the world, our goal is still the same: to share this way of moving so you can feel the same freedom in your own body. That is why we started OnRoots.

Issy

Yoga, mobility and movement

Born and raised in Phuket, Thailand. Issy bridges the gap between traditional Asana and modern biomechanics. She focuses on the architecture of the body, teaching you not just how to move, but how to understand the mechanics of your own joints and mind to build a sustainable practice that lasts.

Max

Calisthenics and Anatomy

After leaving the corporate world, Max dedicated himself to mastering bodyweight strength. As a certified personal trainer with a strong foundation in human anatomy, he teaches the anatomy modules for our 300-hour advanced teacher training.
